Basia's Background

To Basia, the paper dolls of yesteryear are beautiful and magical, and she looks forward to a revival of this lovely illustrated art form. An award winning portrait and figurative artist, Basia's passion was encouraged by her family. She still has the remainders of colored pencils her father used at the Art Institute of Chicago in the 1930's, and which she later used to color her own paper dolls. Today she adds a bit of color to each of her paper dolls using those same pencils just for their "magical properties."

Basia has a degree in Fine Art from San Diego State University and Life Teaching Credentials in Art Education. Basia's paper doll art is often featured in various paper doll related publications.

Basia Koenig Paper Doll Art          A paper doll portrait drawn as part of her Hollywood Musical paper doll theme is published in Roger G. Taylor's 2006 book Marilyn In Art, ISBN 1-904957-02-1. Her other Marilyn image in the book is of a drawing on sandstone. Basia's studio is in Cardiff by the Sea, CA. Her art is shown at the Rancho Santa Fe Gallery, Rancho Santa Fe, CA.

Basia Koenig is pronounced as "Bah-sha Kay-nig"
